Serbia responded after halftime, with Luka Jović finding the equalizer and putting the hosts back into the contest.
The Netherlands, however, regained the advantage in the 69th minute when Meerdink scored his second goal of the night to restore the Dutch lead.
The winning goal was created by Ruben van Bommel, who continued his impressive start to international football. Van Bommel provided a dangerous cross for Meerdink, helping the Netherlands secure their first victory in Group A2.
Meerdink's performance capped a remarkable start to his international career. After making his Netherlands debut on Friday against Germany, he has now scored two goals in his first two appearances for the national team.
The victory also gave Xavi Hernández his first win since taking over as Netherlands head coach.
The Netherlands will now turn their attention to their upcoming Nations League fixtures as they look to build momentum in Group A2. Germany were scheduled to face Greece in Augsburg later on Sunday in the other group match.
